While serving in the U.S. Army from 2016 to 2022, I held multiple ranks, positions, and duties. Prior to exiting the service, I had worked my way up to being a Platoon Sergeant at 23 years of age. Here’s how it happened.
Leadership and Personnel Management
Leadership is a 3-dimensional spectrum that can see success from multiple angles. Throughout my military career, I treated everyone regardless of age, rank, or position with common respect. I never thought myself to be worth more nor less than anyone else. As I climbed the ranks, I quickly realized how my understanding of respect aided in my success as a leader. To simply put it, troops respect rank, but what troops respect beyond the rank is who wears it. Earning the respect of my troops led to earning their trust. Earning their trust led to efficient team chemistry which produces results. Moral of the story, be the version of the person you respect and handle every challenge with consistency and integrity.
